Terms of Service

These terms explain the rules for using TradeIn. By creating an account or using the platform, you agree to follow them. We've kept the language simple so everything is clear.

1. Who Can Use TradeIn

To use TradeIn you must be at least 18 years old, or at least 13 years old with a parent or guardian's permission and supervision.

You must provide accurate information when creating your account. Using a fake name, someone else's identity, or false contact details is not allowed and will result in your account being removed.

TradeIn is available in the United States. By using the platform, you confirm that you are legally allowed to enter into this agreement.

2. Your Account

You are responsible for keeping your password secure and for everything that happens under your account. If you think your account has been accessed by someone else, change your password immediately and contact us.

You may only have one account. Creating multiple accounts to get around a suspension or ban is not allowed.

You can delete your account at any time by contacting us. When you do, your listings and profile will be removed.

3. Posting Listings

When you post a listing on TradeIn, you agree that:

  • The item is yours to sell or trade — you have the legal right to list it.
  • All photos and information are accurate and represent the actual item.
  • The price, condition, mileage, and any vehicle details (make, model, year, VIN) are truthful.
  • You will not post the same item multiple times to inflate visibility.
  • You will remove or mark a listing as sold once the item is no longer available.

Listings that are misleading, duplicated, or no longer available may be removed without notice.

4. Trades and Sales

TradeIn is a platform that connects buyers and sellers. We are not a party to any transaction between users. When you agree to a trade or sale with another user, that agreement is between the two of you.

You are responsible for inspecting items before completing a transaction, meeting in a safe location for in-person exchanges, and resolving any disputes directly with the other party.

TradeIn is not responsible for the condition, legality, or ownership of items exchanged between users.

5. Payments

When a sale involves a payment through TradeIn, that payment is processed by Stripe. By making or receiving a payment on the platform, you also agree to Stripe's terms of service.

TradeIn charges a small platform fee on completed paid transactions to cover the cost of running the service. This fee is shown clearly before you confirm a transaction.

Refunds are handled on a case-by-case basis. If you believe you have been defrauded in a transaction, contact us as soon as possible and we will do our best to help resolve the issue.

Free trades (item-for-item exchanges with no money involved) are not processed through our payment system and carry no transaction fees.

6. Things You Must Not Do

The following are not allowed on TradeIn:

  • Listing or selling stolen vehicles or items.
  • Posting fraudulent, misleading, or deceptive listings.
  • Harassing, threatening, or abusing other users through messages or listings.
  • Using the platform to scam other users in any way — fake escrow, advance fee requests, etc.
  • Spamming other users with unsolicited messages or offers.
  • Attempting to take transactions off-platform to avoid fees or protections.
  • Using bots, scripts, or automated tools to interact with the platform.
  • Attempting to access another user's account or any part of our systems without authorization.
  • Posting content that is illegal, offensive, or violates another person's rights.

Violating any of these rules may result in your listings being removed, your account being suspended, or being permanently banned from TradeIn.

7. Your Content

You own the photos, descriptions, and other content you post on TradeIn. By posting content, you give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to display it on the platform as part of running the service (for example, showing your listing to other users).

We do not sell your content or use it for advertising. When you delete a listing or your account, we remove your content from public view.

You are responsible for making sure you have the right to post any content you upload, including photos. Do not post content that belongs to someone else without permission.

8. Enforcement

TradeIn reserves the right to remove any listing or content that violates these terms, and to suspend or permanently ban any account that breaks the rules — with or without advance notice.

If your account is suspended and you believe it was a mistake, you can contact us to appeal. We review all appeals and aim to respond within 5 business days.

We also cooperate with law enforcement when legally required to do so.

9. Limitation of Liability

TradeIn provides the platform "as is." We do our best to keep it running smoothly and safely, but we cannot guarantee it will be error-free or available at all times.

To the fullest extent allowed by law, TradeIn is not liable for:

  • Losses arising from transactions between users, including fraud, disputes, or item condition.
  • Any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages related to your use of the platform.
  • Temporary outages or loss of data.

Your use of the platform is at your own risk. Always exercise caution when meeting strangers and completing transactions.

10. Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. If the changes are significant, we'll notify you by email or with a notice when you log in.

Continuing to use TradeIn after changes are posted means you accept the updated terms. If you don't agree with a change, you can delete your account at any time.
